I managed to get a job with SveaSkog which Sweden’s largest forestry company for my ability to kayak. I worked with my girlfriend Lisa to survey over 45 islands on the Piteälven. Our job was to access these islands immersed within the whitewater rapids and remote areas of the river and note the tree species, age, height, and diameter of the trees, along with any wildlife living on the island.
This section of the Piteälven is also the area that hosted the European Freestyle Championships in 2007.
This river is about to become another of Sweden’s Eco Parks and we had the privilege to see the beauty of this region first hand while providing important research for the future of the park.
